Connect AWS to your fork
Authorize the AWS Connector for GitHub on your fork so CodePipeline can read it.
About 10 min · Verified 8 October 2026
CodePipeline cannot read GitHub with a password. It uses a connection: you install the AWS Connector for GitHub app on your GitHub account and choose which repositories it may read. The pipeline then uses that connection to download your code and to learn about new pushes.
Create the connection#
Start a new connection#
Open Developer ToolsSettingsConnections (or CodePipelineSettingsConnections). Check the Region selector is ap-south-1, then choose Create connection.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Select a provider | GitHub |
| Connection name | shortlink-github |
Choose Connect to GitHub.
Authorize the app on GitHub#
A GitHub window opens (allow pop-ups if nothing appears).
- Sign in to GitHub if asked, then choose Authorize AWS Connector for GitHub.
- Back in the AWS dialog, next to GitHub Apps choose Install a new app.
- On GitHub choose your personal account (not an organisation you do not own).
- Choose Only select repositories and pick your fork,
<GITHUB_USER>/shortlink. - Choose Install.
Finish in AWS#
Back in the AWS dialog the new installation is selected in the GitHub Apps list. Choose Connect, then Create connection.
Check from the command line and save the ARN#
aws codeconnections list-connections --region ap-south-1 --provider-type-filter GitHub \
--query 'Connections[].{name:ConnectionName, status:ConnectionStatus, arn:ConnectionArn}' --output tableCopy the arn of shortlink-github into My values → GitHub connection ARN. It looks like arn:aws:codeconnections:<region>:<account>:connection/<uuid>.
My fork is not in the repository list when I build the pipeline
- The app is installed on a different GitHub account, or on the fork with a typo in the account. Open GitHub → SettingsApplicationsInstalled GitHub AppsAWS Connector for GitHubConfigure and check Repository access includes your fork.
- The connection is in a different AWS Region from the pipeline. They must match.
Next: create the pipeline.
