CodePipeline reads GitHub through a connection, an installation of the AWS Connector for GitHub app that you authorize on your fork.

If you already did guide 2#

You already have a connection called shortlink-github. Check it and reuse it.

Your computerIs the connection usable?
aws codeconnections list-connections --region ap-south-1 --provider-type-filter GitHub \
  --query 'Connections[].{name:ConnectionName,status:ConnectionStatus,arn:ConnectionArn}' --output table

If shortlink-github shows AVAILABLE, copy its ARN into My values → GitHub connection ARN and skip to the next chapter.

If this is your first pipeline#

Create the connection#

Open Developer ToolsSettingsConnectionsCreate connection in ap-south-1.

FieldValue
Select a providerGitHub
Connection nameshortlink-github

Choose Connect to GitHub.

Install the app on your fork only#

In the GitHub window: Authorize AWS Connector for GitHub, then back in the AWS dialog choose Install a new app. On GitHub choose your personal account, select Only select repositories, pick <GITHUB_USER>/shortlink, and choose Install.

Back in AWS, select the new installation, choose Connect, then Create connection.

You should see
Status Available. A Pending connection cannot source a pipeline: open it and choose Update pending connection.

Save the ARN#

Run the command above and copy the arn into My values → GitHub connection ARN.

Next: create the pipeline.
